Vivian's Bakery |
| |
Vivian's Bakery - Named after Vivian Vance of the I Love
Lucy show, this bakery represents all the wonderful cakes and pastries
my Mother baked for our family of 8. [We never had store bought desserts.]
The front of the building is made of white translucent acrylic to represent
Vitrolite.
The pilasters are sintra and the brickwork is styrene. I found part of
an LGB train building that I used for the outside structure. Using a scribe
tool [a metal hook that scores plastic] I reworked some of the brick pattern
then painted it to look like the yellow brick that is so prevalent in the
Pittsburgh area. |

Bake Shop |

Bake Shop - Sintra and styrene are the two main materials
here. The painted walls represent enameled hardboard that was used back
then to cover up old plaster and at the same time gives the place a face-lift.
The paint I use is a satin finish spray paint out of can. High gloss is
too out of scale; satin has the perfect shine for 1/24th models.
The cakes are make from pieces of chalk, the bread is made from insulation
foam cut to the right size then brushed with water color paint to give
it a baked look. The cookies are "sugar sprinkles" used on cupcakes. |

Bread Slicer |

Bread Slicer - What a great invention! Vivian's Bakery had
to have one. It's made of styrene, a map pin for the lever, and pieces
of brass for the blades. |
