A forgotten Masterpiece...

Once again it is time to talk about models that never made it into full production or simply were rejected by the powers that be for whatever reason. This month’s model is a Franklin Mint 1934 Packard.

In preparation for the Limited Edition Packard, Roger Hardnock came up with a great looking color combo. He found a picture of a two-tone lavender and plum Packard that just knocked your socks off. We were all pretty excited about it since the color combination looked outstanding. The day came when it was presented to management it was flatly rejected.

The next color presented was the black and gray, which was approved and became the limited edition Packard that we all know today.

An interesting story, the original #1 Packard was to be shown at the Franklin Mint car show where it mysteriously disappeared. The woman in charge of the model set it down for just a moment and it vanished. Two plum and lavender samples were made one was destroyed, the whereabouts of the other is unknown.
