Franklin Mint 1940 Goodyear Service truck…

By George S. Bojaciuk

This concept was one of Roger Hardnock's brainstorms. He kept this one quiet from me. When it was ready he called me into his office and popped it onto his desk. This was around the time the Chevy Service Nomad came out. Roger took the '40 Ford Pick up and painted it in Goodyear blue and yellow colors. The factory made a cool little formed metal tire rack w/wheels and "new" tires. We found some vintage Goodyear logos for the door but never applied them. Additional accessories were to include a floor jack and a few tools, but they were never developed.

The model was to be shown at a design approval meeting. Prior to the meeting Roger was given the directive to not even show the model, as the Service Truck did not do well.

Now, Roger had a bad habit of tossing models. We had several counseling sessions and finally broke the habit. He walked into my office and handed me the model. Told me to take it home. It was in my collection for a while. It eventually left the collection to make room for other things. This is the only known model to exist.
