Adjusting the rear ride
height on the DM 1956 Desoto Adventurer. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Having posed the question on how to adjust the rear ride height on the DM Desoto Adventurer on our forum here is the instruction on how to do just that rom John Luthi who was kind enough to help out a fellow collector with these instructions. Disclaimer: Before you go any further let me mention all repairs, modifications etc. are done at your own risk; you may damage your model beyond repair. If you are all thumbs, don't have the proper tools please do not attempt this modification. However, if you are adventurous, go for it, you will love the results. |

| Myron, here's what I did on my DM Chrysler 300B
(on which I also dropped the front). I did the rear of my Adventurer differently,
but this was easier. The suspensions are identical on both. The nylon spacers
were bought from a local industrial supply. To make your life less hectic,
I'd gladly send you some. The other method involves removing the entire rear end - springs, drive shaft and all, by removing the rearmost screws that secure the leaves. Next you remove the spring wire helper springs atop the plastic leaves (you can't see 'em but they're there). There are front and rear wires. The fronts are extracted from the chassis, the rears "deglued" from the leaves. Re-mount the rear end and the model sits a bit lower, but I'm not sure of the long-term effects of having the wires out (the plastic might sag more). I can't prove it, as my adventurer has yet to be displayed.. |
