Old video clips showing the new at the time 1954 Ford. I know, I'm a bit biased to Fords. lol
This does remind me that there were so many different body-styles done on one basic car, and makes me wonder why that can't be done again today,
now that almost all cars are out of production. Might be a good way to start over, when the truck craze settles down.

Bill, I remember the unveiling of new models back then. It was an event that families dressed up for and dealers put on a show. I Have a feeling that we will never get back to those days.

Here's a glimpse of the future. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEP2kCvn1ac

Our cars may eventually come without steering wheels, except for one that is detachable, foldable, stored in the trunk and used much like a spare tire in an emergency.

I've always liked the '54 Ford.

To tie-in with Frank's comment...
A couple of years ago, I saw another video where Mercedes-Benz was already testing a car with NO steering wheel... it had a 'JOY STICK'!

lol .... I watched that just now, and EVERY time it showed someone getting in or out of the car, they were virtual people acting in front of a green screen, not real ones. No way a real human could get in or out of that car. The first guy looked like he bent over and then dove into a padded box on the floor, not even acting like he was getting into a seat!

My idea is there will be no personal cars whatsoever. You will hop in a bubble car on a big embedded wire network somewhat like Lionel trains used, owned by the government or a big corporation who can afford $250K 4-wheel transportation units, enter your destination and a debit card, and slowly crawl around behind long lines of identical units to wherever you directed the system to take you.

Personally, I don't believe I could ever adjust to that system. Maybe I can rig up my wheelchair with a lawn mower motor, and use bike/golf cart paths!

Back to the '54, some of the scenes in the video I used to see everyday, including the iron gate entrance. The Design Center shown actually got swallowed up within a much larger Body Engineering building.
I was in Dearborn this summer, drove past all the demolition and new construction going on to convert the testing and development facilities over to the new focus on EV's, and they seemed to be preserving the Design Center structure. The big building around it was all knocked down.

Bill, this is a real car and a real man. And I identify with him.

A few years ago Cathy and I went to see my family in Ohio. My cousin graciously loaned us her Miata covertible to tool around in. I had a similar problem getting in and out of her car.

lol, yeah .... I can relate to that also.
Dealer here when I was ordering the Mustang had one of those Miatas on their used car lot. I'm 6'5"..... even with the seat all the way back, I couldn't close the door .... my knees were bent out so far to get under the steering wheel.
