1971 saw the Golden AnniversaryAutomodello 1971 Lincoln Mark III for the Lincoln marque, and the third and final year of Lincoln Continental Mark III production. Sales were better than ever, at 27,091 almost equal to the Eldorado's, a harbinger for the new decade.

Little changed from the 1970 model; tinted glass became standard, as did automatic climate-controlled air conditioning and SureTrak anti-lock brakes. High-back seats became standard, and a rare special-order floor console was made available. Horsepower remained unchanged at 365, but the 460 cid V8 engine gained a more sophisticated thermostatic air cleaner assembly with its associated ductwork.

In its second annual King of the Hill contest Motor Trend (July, 1971) again gave the Continental Mark III the nod by a wider margin than 1970 despite the Lincoln being basically a warmed over 1968 model while the Cadillac was all-new from the ground up. M/T noted that the Mark III's leather interior was far more luxurious and better detailed than the test Eldorado's nylon cloth and the Continental's real wood dash trim was far more attractive than the Cadillac's simulate. Automodello keeps those 1:24th models coming with their latest release, a 1971 Lincoln Mark III in 1:24th scale. Currently this model collection consists of the following families:

  • Standard Edition which is Red Moondust with Dark Red interior, this run consists of up to 499 units worldwide.
  • Tribute Edition which is Ginger Bronze Moondust with Dark Tobacco interior, this run consists of 171 units worldwide.
  • Homage Edition which is Black with Black Top and Tanish-Hue interior, this is the smallest run of a mere 50 units and will be the first to sell out.

When asked what I thought of this model on a personal level I can only say "Wow!” Honestly, these models had one of the best finishes I have ever seen, on any model that ever crossed my desk. The colors were so deep and rich I was in awe of their beauty. Being a resin model these are what are called static in the industry, meaning there are no working features such as hood, door or trunk lid opening. Viewing these models however you wouldn't be able to tell nothing opens; the scribe lines are so realistic you might try to open the door.

Be mindful of all the photo-etched parts as they are easily damaged by big hands or a dust cloth. However, it is those parts which lend to the realism of these find models. Peering through the moon roof you will notice that the interior is fully detailed also. I have to admit I was skeptical on what I would find in workmanship inside. Let’s be honest; what can you see inside anyway. Boy was I wrong, the interior is just as fully detailed as the exterior and the workmanship is outstanding. My conclusion of the Automodello Lincoln Mark III defines what a "Museum Quality" model truly is. As for which one I would purchase, as that is what my emails are asking, I can only say it doesn't matter; they are all gorgeous, you won't go wrong with whichever one you choose.

Without a doubt this one is a keeper, we rate it a "Cork Popper" with a (5 Cork) rating for sure! Don't take our word on it; click on the thumbnails below to view a much larger image and draw your own conclusion.
