Posted - 04/10/2025 : 21:49:35 This was in a car magazine, probably in 1962 based on the cars involved. The midnight ride of Hank Revere. Listen my children and you will hear of the midnight ride of Hank Revere. I was stopped at a red light in my 406 burning three two barrels and a four speed stick. I glanced in the mirror and coming up behind was a loud red Chevy, 409. I paused a second when the light turned turned green and he pulled up beside me looking kinda mean. He rolled down his window, took a look at my flags then yelled real loud, "You wanna drag?" I said "no, at least not much” but when he said “go” I popped the clutch. I was still burning rubber when I hit second gear and the roar of that engine was all I could hear. That Ford had a lot with my foot on the floor but that Chevy beside me had a little bit more. So I skipped third gear and went into high and that Chevy sounded mean as I went by. In the speed of a second he shifted too and then I could tell we weren’t through. Up ahead was a stop sign and he didn't stop, neither did I and I heard that siren as we went by I knew right then this race should end with the cops behind and ahead a sharp bend. As we entered that curve he started to slide As he tore thru that lamp pole, Hank Revere died. There’s a moral to this story that’s plain to see Don’t race on the highway or you'll be in a cell like me.
